About the Trust
Supporting Stowmarket for generations.
Stowmarket Relief Trust has a long history of helping local people in need, with its purpose continuing today through practical, referral-led support.
Our history
A charity with deep local roots
The Trust began in 1523 when Margaret Gowle left her home and land to the church. Over the centuries, income from properties helped feed, clothe and educate local people in need.
Although the needs of the community have changed over time, the purpose remains the same: to provide meaningful support to people who are facing difficult circumstances.
Today, Stowmarket Relief Trust continues that work in a modern, practical way by supporting people through trusted referral partners.
What we do
Practical support for local people
The Trust’s work is focused on real, everyday needs that can make a meaningful difference to someone’s quality of life.
Referral-led support
Applications are made through local agencies and professionals who understand the person’s circumstances.
Essential household help
The Trust may support items such as white goods, beds, flooring, furniture and other practical essentials.
Local focus
The Trust exists to support people in and around Stowmarket, keeping its impact close to the local community.
How the Trust works
Working with local partners
Stowmarket Relief Trust works with local agencies, charities and professionals who can identify need and submit applications on behalf of people requiring support.
This referral-led approach helps ensure requests are properly understood and support is directed where it can make a practical difference.
